2004 Hook & Ladder Russian River Chardonnay
This is a steal for a
Russian River Chard. This wine has all the richness and depth of a $25
wine, but is priced significantly less. You’ll smell the big, oak
flavors in the aroma and tastes the ripe, lush, and big fruit flavors on
the palate. Ripe tropical fruits fill your mouth with lots of balanced
oak. The mid-palate has ripe pineapple and vanilla flavors as well as
good acidity. The finish is creamy without too much richness and more
ripe fruit. This is a big Chard that has excellent balance.
2005 JJ Vincent Bourgogne Blanc
This is
an absolutely wonderful Chard! It has good brightness on the palate with
crisp apple and mineral flavors that evolve into ripe, lemon curd
flavors on the mid-palate. It’s a very pretty fruit profile. This is a
dry Chardonnay yet is very flavorful. The finish is quite lengthy with
elegant crisp apple fruit. Please don’t serve this too cold or you’ll
miss these lovely flavors.
2006 Bird Sauvignon Blanc Old Schoolhouse Vineyard
This is a
wonderful Sauvignon Blanc. It has the typical New Zeal. aromas of citrus
and herbaceous flavors. On the palate it’s much smoother and not as
bright with subdued acidity. You’ll still find citrus flavors up front,
but the mid-palate is filled with lovely passion fruit flavors. This wine
has an elegance not usually found in Kiwi Sauvignon Blancs. The
finish is crisp, but not overly dry with good length.
2006 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
"Concentrated and complex, with vivid passion fruit, grapefruit and
tangy peach flavors. Vibrant minerality and tangy lime juice acidity
keep thumping through the finish. Drink this now." Wine Spectator
- 92 Points!
2005 Formentini Pinot Grigio
If
you’re looking for a richer style of Pinot Grigio at a reasonable price
then this is your choice. It has a melon aroma and a lovely round
mouthfeel. You’ll find crisp, melon fruit on the palate with interesting
almond notes. The mid-palate has a rounder texture and riper fruit. The
finish shows ripe fruit and mineral notes. This is an elegant wine and a
good alternative to the mass produced lemon water that some wineries
call Pinot Grigio.
2005 Laxas Albariňo
This wine demonstrates the beauty of the Albariňo grape. This wine has
lovely aromatics – litchi fruit, melon, and floral notes. It’s elegant
yet refreshing on the palate with lime and melon flavors entwined in a
floral background. Dry and flavorful with a lovely mouthfeel throughout
plus apricot and peach on the crisp finish. This one is a must try.
